OVERVIEW

The Fancourt Montagu golf course in South Africa resides on a premier lifestyle resort which is home to the three championship golf courses, Outeniqua, Montagu and Fancourt The Links. The resort has received an honourable mention as one of the ‘Best Golf Resorts in Africa and the Middle East as part of the 2021 Golf Digest Editors’ Choice Awards. The golf course has earned a world-class reputation amongst, not only the locals in South Africa but as one of the finest 18-hole parkland layouts. It was designed by Gary Player and is surrounded by a breath-taking indigenous landscape. It promises a challenge for even the most experienced golfers as well as a fantastic opportunity for the less experienced, to practise their swing and hone their skills.

The first hole is a great hole to start off the stunning Fancourt Montagu golf course. Using a driver off the tee you will need to stay to the right as the water hazard on the left will create a difficult approach shot. Guarded by a bunker on the left of the green, you will be forced to putt carefully.

The 3rd Hole is a par 4 and if you are a long hitter, you have a crack at clearing the bunkers on the left. If you are not a long hitter staying to the right will help you with your approach shot as there is a bunker to the left.

There are 4 par 5’s on this course and each brings a beautiful view of the ravine from all directions. The 10th Tee is a dogleg to the right. Here you can show off and clear the small water stream in the middle, or you can play it safe and lay up before the water for a good approach shot onto the green. However, stay left, as the water on the right will definitely be in play.

Unlike Outeniqua, there is no doubt as to which hole is the signature Hole. The 17th Par 3 is a challenge worth the risk. The water along the front makes this hole intimidating for any golfer but the “risk/reward” will be worth it, as you have a big green to work with and a few bunkers that will keep you out of the water and safe on the other side.

The 18th is one of the best finishing holes in golf! A great par 5 for the longer hitters, and an intimidating approach for most golfers. The layup is important to leave a fuller shot in, in which the strike will be crucial!
