Sun City is home to one of the world’s longest golf courses, at almost 7 315 meters. The golf course is one of two within the Sun City Resort, the other being the Lost City Golf Course, with its famous crocodile hole with the green in the shape of the African continent, which was also designed by Gary Player but in a desert African style. The well-known Sun City resort is adjacent to the fourth largest game park in South Africa, Pilanesberg National Park. Named after its designer, the Gary Player Country Club is the resort’s centrepiece and has been significantly revamped and strengthened since its opening. It is home to the annual Nedbank Golf Challenge, which hosts some of the world’s greatest golfing legends.

Most of the holes are played between bunkers from the tee onto the small greens.  The greens are ringed by bunkers or fronted by water hazards. The central holes offer the best chances at birdie. The par-five 9^th, which is the course’s signature hole, features an island green and is a fun hole if you are long enough from the tee to be tempted to have a go at the green in two. The 10^th is another reachable three-shot hole with a green surrounded by thick, rough.

The 18^th is a fitting end to such a ruthless challenge. The tee shot must lay up short and right of the water, leaving a long second to an undulating green protected front right and left by bunkers. Ensure that enough club is used, as this shot is longer than it looks.
