OVERVIEW
Simola Golf and Country Estate is situated on the hills high above the quaint town of Knysna, in the Garden Route. The golf course has firmly cemented its place as one of Africa’s premier golf touring destinations. This championship golf course has hosted the Sunshine Tour and the Vodacom Origins of Golf. The golf course was originally designed by Jack Nicklaus in 2005. Unique to coastal courses, the wind is rarely a factor while playing this course, However, the incredible views over the Indian Ocean and the Knysna Heads will make it hard to keep your head down and focus on your next shot!
The golf course boasts an unusual configuration with long five par 5 and five par 3 holes, with four tees to choose from. The opening seven holes overlook the breathtaking Knysna Heads and Lagoon, and the remaining holes enjoy great river views.
The second hole is a par 4. From this tee box, one can appreciate the extraordinary beauty that South Africa has on offer. Standing high on a cliffside, you tee off into a valley to the green below you. Do not hesitate to give a big swing to reach the green. The way down is a long drop for the ball than one might think.
One of the best holes is played early on in the round with a short par 4 at the 2nd. This dramatic hole is played from a tee perched high above the fairway, and from its vantage point, all seven fairways and greenside bunkers are in full view with the river on the left.
