OVERVIEW
Peter Matkovich and Dale Hayes teamed up to create the Sabi River Sun Golf Club in Mpumalanga. It is only one of four 18-hole layouts in the exquisitely beautiful Mpumalanga Lowveld. Famous for its resident hippo’s have made their home on the golf course and are welcome spectators to the Mpumalanga Lowveld surrounding it, the Sabi River Sun Golf Club is as beautiful to look at, as it is enjoyable to play. Tee-off at the Sabi River Sun Golf Club in Hazyview where this 71-par 18-hole golf course offers one of the most thrilling golf courses near the Kruger National Park.
The golf course itself offers a variety of water hazards and sand traps, beautiful fairways, and opportunities for some long drives which is carved out from the natural landscape of the bushveld. There are 5 Par 3’s, 9 Par 4’s, and 4 Par 5’s on this course. The 16th is a favourite for hippo spotting in the dam that runs parallel to the green. The fairways on the golf course are narrow, and the greens are well protected by either bunkers or dams which occur naturally through the bushveld.
This is game country and a couple of dozen hippos and crocodiles are permanent residents in the golf course’s main dam, next to the 14th and 15th holes.
