Fairview Winery

The wine farm form part of the iconic and famous Spice Route.
A settler from Lithuania, Charles Back I, landed on the shores of Cape Town in 1902 and built up a booming wine export business known as Fairview today. Upon his death in 1955, he entrusted the wine farm to his two sons, His grandson, Charles Back II, started farming with his father, Cyril, in 1978. In 1995, Charles Back II took over full responsibility for the farm upon his father’s passing. Charles Back II began to make artisanal cheese using the milk from goats, and today the production of cheese has gone on to become as prestigious and successful as wine. In 2014, Charles received the International Wine Challenge Lifetime Achievement.
