OVERVIEW
Highland Gate is one of South Africa’s newest courses. It is a spectacular course that fully embraces the beautiful landscape that South Africa has on offer. Located only two and a half hours from Johannesburg, nestled in the Steenkampsberg mountain range near Dullstroom, the Highland Gate Golf and Trout Estate boasts an Ernie Els signature golf course. The Highland Gate golf course is the main sporting attraction other than trout fishing in Dullstroom.
The clubhouse overlooks the par 5 18th green, and its water hazards can make any golfer excited (nervous?) about what is to come on this course.
The course has glorious views, bracing mountain air, and a golf course that is fun to play with generously wide fairways. With one exception. The par-5 14th, one of Ernie’s signature holes, is the tightest driving hole on the course, with a stream running down the right side of the hole, and thick veld grass guarding the left side.
The first nine return to the clubhouse and end with a special downhill par 4 which doglegs left around a large dam.
The beautiful par 4 fourth hole has the best views on the course, with Mountain views as you tee off high above the fairway, which doglegs to the left. In Ernie’s own words: “When you hear a golfer say they were torn between hitting their next shot or stopping to take a photo of the surrounding scenery, you know it has to be a very special place.”
The back nine has some great risk and reward holes, starting with the 11th par 5, where the fairway plunges downhill towards a narrow green which is guarded by a stream. Design your own tour and discover the beauty of this golf course.
